May 2008 - The Amygdala and Reward - Marconi Center
This overnight retreat featured talks on the role of the amgydala in reward and addiction. Our guest speaker was Dr. Geoffrey Schoenbaum of the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

October 2005
- Dopamine - Headlands Institute
This one-day workshop used a discussion format to debate current research on the role of dopamine in motivated behaviors and addiction.

March 2005 - The Neurobiology of Obesity: Brain Mechanisms of Palatability and Satiety - UCSF Parnassus
This one-day symposium focused on brain mechanisms of food intake. The morning session was held in Cole Hall on the Parnassus Campus of UCSF and featured lectures from Mary Dallman (UCSF), Christian Vaisse (UCSF), and Roger Cone (OHSU). An afternoon session consisted of a lunch poster session and additional talks.

October 2004 - Tolerance and Withdrawal - Marconi Center
This overnight retreat featured talks and posters focusing on mechanisms of opioid receptor tolerance and withdrawal. The presentations ranged from molecular and cellular mechanisms to behavioral and clinical research. Our guest speaker was Dr. Christian Lüscher of the University of Geneva, Switzerland.

April 2004 - Electrophysiology in Behaving Animals; What is the State of the Art? - UCSF Parnassus
This small, one-day workshop involved talks and discussion based on sharing techniques and methods for optimizing in vivo electrophysiological recordings in awake behaving animals, and analysis of single unit recordings.

October 2003 - Synapses: Circuits and Structure - UCSF Mission Bay
This one-day symposium featured talks on mechanisms of plasticity in synaptic transmission and included a lunch poster session. Speakers included Roger Nicoll (UCSF), David Bredt (UCSF), amongst others and our invited guest speaker, Massimo Scanziani (UCSD).

January 2003 - Quantative Measurement of Behavior - Marconi Center
This overnight retreat focused on novel approaches to the quantitative analysis of behavior. The format utilized presentations followed by extensive discussion, with the goal of improving spatial and temporal resolution of behavioral analysis with a view toward improving methods for electrophysiological and genetic analysis. Our guest speaker was Dr. Ian Whishaw of University of Lethbridge, Alberta Canada.

September 2001 - Current Topics in Addiction Marconi Center
This overnight retreat utilized brief presentations on a range of topics related to addiction and included a poster session.

October 1999 - First Planning Retreat - Marconi Center
Our inaugural overnight retreat at the Marconi Center included presentations from Wheeler Center members. Our guest speakers included Dr. Charles Chavkin from the University of Washington and Dr. Philippe Bourgois of the Department of Anthropology, History and Social Medicine at UCSF.
